Unusual metastatic patterns of prostate adenocarcinoma.
The Journal of urology, 1983, Volume: 130, Issue:5

While prostatic adenocarcinoma is associated classically with osseous or lymphatic metastasis, it can present clinically with protean manifestations. We describe 4 cases that demonstrate unusual patterns of metastatic spread, including isolated supraclavicular mass, pleural effusion, suprapubic and genital skin metastasis, and priapism. Newer immunohistochemical staining techniques for prostate specific antigen and prostatic acid phosphatase can assist in localization of the metastatic adenocarcinoma to a prostatic origin.

[Enzyme cytochemical investigations on pleural effusions (author's transl)].
Zeitschrift fur Erkrankungen der Atmungsorgane, 1977, Volume: 148, Issue:3

A total of 130 smears from 77 patients with various diseises (42 patients with tumors, 35 patients with specific and non-specific lung diseases) were investigated with enzyme cytochemical methods with regard to the practical application of enzyme cytochemistry in pleural effusions. It is possible to demonstrate all investigated enzymes on normal air-dried or aceton-fixed smears without any technical problems. Between tumor and mesothelial cells a different reaction on some enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, non-specific esterase, aminopeptidase, beta-glucuronidase) could be found valuable for diagnostic purpose. For application in praxi alkaline phosphatase seems to be most important. 70% of all pleural effusions of tumorous origin contain alkaline phosphatase positive tumor cells.

[Cytochemical tests on sediment cells of malignant and benign exudates].
    Folia haematologica (Leipzig, Germany : 1928), 1975, Volume: 102, Issue:5

In exsudate cells separated from serous body cavities of 29 tumour patients and 30 patients with inflammatory and congestive effusion in cardiac failure or liver cirrhosis respectively the activities of acid and alkaline phosphatase were determined. In addition to sudanophilia the cell content of glycogen and that of ribonucleinic acid were evaluated. By means of cytochemical findings it could be found that an increase of unspecific esterase, acid phosphatase and ribonucleic acid in atypical cells points to a malignous ethiology of the exudate.

Renal subcellular fractions producing angionecrosis and increased vascular permeability.
British journal of experimental pathology, 1975, Volume: 56, Issue:1

In order to define the subcellular localization and characters of substances in the rat kidney which increase vascular permeability and produce angionecrosis, the following investigations have been undertaken: (1) subcellular fractionation by use of differential centrifugation and osmotic shock treatment with enzyme profile determination; (2) chromatographic separation of lysosomal contents with concanavalin A affinity column. Lysomal contents contained substances that induced an increase of vascular permeability of the rabbit skin and angionecrosis in the pancreas of the bilaterally nephrectomized rats and the spontaneously hypertensive rats. Lysosomal contents treated at 60 degrees for 30 min showed no renin activity and yet produced angionecrosis. Non-affinity fraction from concanavalin A column chromatography showed no renin activity but produced angionecrosis and an increase of vascular permeability of rabbit skin.
