acetylcarnitine has been researched along with Vitamin B 12 Deficiency in 2 studies
Acetylcarnitine: An acetic acid ester of CARNITINE that facilitates movement of ACETYL COA into the matrices of mammalian MITOCHONDRIA during the oxidation of FATTY ACIDS.
Vitamin B 12 Deficiency: A nutritional condition produced by a deficiency of VITAMIN B 12 in the diet, characterized by megaloblastic anemia. Since vitamin B 12 is not present in plants, humans have obtained their supply from animal products, from multivitamin supplements in the form of pills, and as additives to food preparations. A wide variety of neuropsychiatric abnormalities is also seen in vitamin B 12 deficiency and appears to be due to an undefined defect involving myelin synthesis. "Although vitamin B12 deficiency is not a primary target of newborn screening (NBS) programs, measurements of propionylcarnitine (C3) and its ratios with acetylcarnitine (C3/C2) and palmitoylcarnitine (C3/C16) may incidentally identify vitamin B12-deficient newborns." | 1.40 | Serum vitamin B12 levels during the first trimester of pregnancy correlate with newborn screening markers of vitamin B12 deficiency.
