5-hydroxytryptophan and Magnesium Deficiency

5-hydroxytryptophan has been researched along with Magnesium Deficiency in 2 studies

5-Hydroxytryptophan: The immediate precursor in the biosynthesis of SEROTONIN from tryptophan. It is used as an antiepileptic and antidepressant.
5-hydroxytryptophan : A tryptophan derivative that is tryptophan substituted by a hydroxy group at position 5.

Magnesium Deficiency: A nutritional condition produced by a deficiency of magnesium in the diet, characterized by anorexia, nausea, vomiting, lethargy, and weakness. Symptoms are paresthesias, muscle cramps, irritability, decreased attention span, and mental confusion, possibly requiring months to appear. Deficiency of body magnesium can exist even when serum values are normal. In addition, magnesium deficiency may be organ-selective, since certain tissues become deficient before others. Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The aim of our study was to analyse the possible implication of the serotoninergic system in the pathophysiology and the lethality of audiogenic seizures induced by magnesium deficiency, either by decreasing cerebral serotonin (5-HT) levels (p-chlorophenylalanine) or by increasing 5-HT levels in the brain (5-hydroxytryptophan, L-tryptophan, nialamide, fluoxetine)."3.69Effect of various serotoninergically induced manipulations on audiogenic seizures in magnesium-deficient mice.
