5-hydroxytryptophan and Carcinoid Heart Disease

5-hydroxytryptophan has been researched along with Carcinoid Heart Disease in 1 studies

5-Hydroxytryptophan: The immediate precursor in the biosynthesis of SEROTONIN from tryptophan. It is used as an antiepileptic and antidepressant.
5-hydroxytryptophan : A tryptophan derivative that is tryptophan substituted by a hydroxy group at position 5.

Carcinoid Heart Disease: Cardiac manifestation of gastrointestinal CARCINOID TUMOR that metastasizes to the liver. Substances secreted by the tumor cells, including SEROTONIN, promote fibrous plaque formation in ENDOCARDIUM and its underlying layers. These deposits cause distortion of the TRICUSPID VALVE and the PULMONARY VALVE eventually leading to STENOSIS and valve regurgitation.
