2,4-dinitrophenol and Ventricular Fibrillation

2,4-dinitrophenol has been researched along with Ventricular Fibrillation in 1 studies

2,4-Dinitrophenol: A toxic dye, chemically related to trinitrophenol (picric acid), used in biochemical studies of oxidative processes where it uncouples oxidative phosphorylation. It is also used as a metabolic stimulant. (Stedman, 26th ed)
dinitrophenol : Members of the class of nitrophenol carrying two nitro substituents.
2,4-dinitrophenol : A dinitrophenol having the nitro groups at the 2- and 4-positions.

Ventricular Fibrillation: A potentially lethal cardiac arrhythmia that is characterized by uncoordinated extremely rapid firing of electrical impulses (400-600/min) in HEART VENTRICLES. Such asynchronous ventricular quivering or fibrillation prevents any effective cardiac output and results in unconsciousness (SYNCOPE). It is one of the major electrocardiographic patterns seen with CARDIAC ARREST.

" The purpose of this study was to investigate the roles of loss of oxidative phosphorylation and activation of the mitochondrial ATP-sensitive K+ channel and permeability transition pore in VF development during myocardial ischemia by using mitochondrial uncoupling agents (carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone and 2,4-dinitrophenol) and channel blockers (5-hydroxydecanoate and cyclosporine A) at concentrations that have been demonstrated to block the intended targets selectively."3.77Mitochondrial uncoupling agents trigger ventricular fibrillation in isolated rat hearts.
