Two new antioxidant diarylheptanoids from the fruits of Alpinia oxyphylla.
Two new diarylheptanoids, 1-(3',5'-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl)-7-phenyl-3-heptanone (1) and 1-(2',4'-dihydroxy-3'-methoxyphenyl)-7-(4″-methoxyphenyl)-3-heptanone (2), along with known diarylheptanoid yakuchinone A (3), and five flavanoids, tectochrysin (4), chrysin (5), izalpinin (6), kaempferol 7, 4'-dimethyl ether (7), and kaempferide (8) were isolated from the fruits of Alpinia oxyphylla Miq. Their structures were determined by means of spectroscopic methods. Antioxidant activities of all the isolated compounds were evaluated using a 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. Compounds 1-3 and 6-8 exhibited potent antioxidant activities in the DPPH assay. New furanoflavanoids, intestinal alpha-glucosidase inhibitory and free-radical (DPPH) scavenging, activity from antihyperglycemic root extract of Derris indica (Lam.).
A bioassay-guided fractionation and chemical examination of antihyperglycemic root extract of Derris indica resulted in isolation and characterization of two new furanoflavanoids (1, 2) along with thirteen known compounds (3-15). Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic (IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR) data analysis and by comparison with the literature data. All the compounds were tested in vitro for intestinal alpha-glucosidase inhibitory and DPPH radical activity. New compounds (1, 2) displayed moderate intestinal alpha-glucosidase inhibitory as well as free radical scavenging activity. Other compounds also displayed varying degrees of moderate intestinal alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Pongamol (6) displayed potent intestinal alpha-glucosidase inhibition. Constituents of Chinese propolis and their antiproliferative activities.
Two new flavonoids, 3-O-[(S)-2-methylbutyroyl]pinobanksin (1) and 6-cinnamylchrysin (2), were isolated from the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the MeOH extract of Chinese propolis, along with 12 known compounds (3-14). The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical analyses. The isolated compounds were tested for their antiproliferative activity toward five different cancer cell lines. Benzyl caffeate (13) and phenethyl caffeate (14) showed potent antiproliferative activity toward tested cell lines with a selective activity toward colon 26-L5 carcinoma cell line (EC(50) values: 13, 1.01; 14, 0.30 microM).
