Cepharanthine and Curcumin inhibited mitochondrial apoptosis induced by PCV2.
    BMC veterinary research, 2020, Sep-18, Volume: 16, Issue:1

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is an immunosuppressive pathogen with high prevalence rate in pig farms. It has caused serious economic losses to the global pig industry. Due to the rapid mutation of PCV2 strain and co-infection of different genotypes, vaccination could not eradicate the infection of PCV2. It is necessary to screen and develop effective new compounds and explore their anti-apoptotic mechanism. The 13 natural compounds were purchased, with a clear plant origin, chemical structure and content and specific biological activities.. Paeonol, Cepharanthine and Curcumin have significant antiviral effect. And the PCV2-induced Mitochondrial apoptosis was mainly remitted by Cepharanthine and Curcumin.

Head-to-Head Comparison of Anti-Inflammatory Performance of Known Natural Products In Vitro.
    PloS one, 2016, Volume: 11, Issue:5

Inflammation is an important therapeutic target. Due to their potency, steroidal drugs dominate the current treatment of inflammatory disorders. However, steroidal drugs can also exert a broad range of side effects and appear not always effective. This calls for the development of alternative drugs with a different mechanism of action, which are likely to be found in the field of natural products (NPs). For many NPs strong anti-inflammatory effects have been described, but usually investigating a single compound in a single assay. In this study, eight promising NPs were selected and tested against the strong anti-inflammatory drug prednisolone. For this head-to-head comparison, in vitro assays were used which represent different pathways of the inflammatory response: TNF-α and IL-6 expression by macrophages, IL-8 expression by colon epithelial cells, ROS production in polymorphonuclear leukocytes and platelet activation in whole blood. Performance profiles were established which allowed us to identify curcumin, berberine chloride and epigallocatechin gallate as potential alternatives for prednisolone or other glucocorticoids in inflammation.

[Anti-tumor effect of tanshinone II A, tetrandrine, honokiol, curcumin, oridonin and paeonol on leukemia cell lines].
Sichuan da xue xue bao. Yi xue ban = Journal of Sichuan University. Medical science edition, 2012, Volume: 43, Issue:3

To study the anti-tumor effect of tanshinon II A, tetrandrine, honokiol, curcumin, oridonin and paeonol on leukemia cell lines SUP-B15, K562, CEM, HL-60 and NB4.. To study the anti-tumor effect of tanshinone II A, tetrandrine, honokiol, curcumin, The leukemia cell lines were exposed to the six Chinese herbal components for 96 hours. The proliferative inhibitory effects were detected with MTT and described by IC50 value.. Tanshinone II A inhibited the proliferations of SUP-B15, K562, CEM, HL-60 and NB4 cell lines, with HL-60 showing the least impact. Tetrandrine, honokiol, curcumin and oridonin inhibited the proliferations of SUP-B15, K562, CEM, HL-60 and NB4 cell lines and there was no significant difference between the cell lines. Paeonol did not have significant inhibitory effect on leukemia cell lines.. Tetrandrine, honokiol, curcumin and oridonin inhibit the proliferation of five cell lines SUP-B15, K562, CEM, HL-60, NB4, and the effects are similar, which means that their anticancer effects are quite broad. Tanshinone II A has better anti-leukemia effects on SUP-B15, K562, CEM, NB4 than on HL-60. The effect of paeonol against leukemia cell lines is poor.
