Dissipation and residue of metalaxyl and cymoxanil in pepper and soil.
Environmental monitoring and assessment, 2014, Volume: 186, Issue:8

A simple and accurate method of determining metalaxyl and cymoxanil in pepper and soil was developed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection. The limits of detection were 0.015 mg/kg for metalaxyl and 0.003 mg/kg for cymoxanil. The limits of quantification were 0.05 mg/kg for metalaxyl in pepper and soil as well as 0.01 mg/kg for cymoxanil in pepper and soil. Recoveries of pepper and soil were investigated at three spiking levels and ranged within 77.52 to 102.05 % for metalaxyl and 87.15 to 103.21 % for cymoxanil, with relative standard deviations below 9.30 %. For field experiments, the half-lives of metalaxyl were 3.2 to 3.9 days in pepper and 4.4 to 9.5 days in soil at the three experimental locations in China. At harvest, pepper samples were found to contain metalaxyl and cymoxanil well below the maximum residue limit MRLs of the European Union (EU) following the recommended dosage and the interval of 21 days after last application.

Toxicity of metalaxyl, azoxystrobin, dimethomorph, cymoxanil, zoxamide and mancozeb to Phytophthora infestans isolates from Serbia.
Journal of environmental science and health. Part. B, Pesticides, food contaminants, and agricultural wastes, 2012, Volume: 47, Issue:5

A study of the in vitro sensitivity of 12 isolates of Phytophthora infestans to metalaxyl, azoxystrobin, dimethomorph, cymoxanil, zoxamide and mancozeb, was conducted. The isolates derived from infected potato leaves collected at eight different localities in Serbia during 2005-2007. The widest range of EC(50) values for mycelial growth of the isolates was recorded for metalaxyl. They varied from 0.3 to 3.9 μg mL(-1) and were higher than those expected in a susceptible population of P. infestans. The EC(50) values of the isolates were 0.16-0.30 μg mL(-1) for dimethomorph, 0.27-0.57 μg mL(-1) for cymoxanil, 0.0026-0.0049 μg mL(-1) for zoxamide and 2.9-5.0 μg mL(-1) for mancozeb. The results indicated that according to effective concentration (EC(50)) the 12 isolates of P. infestans were sensitive to azoxystrobin (0.019-0.074 μg mL(-1)), and intermediate resistant to metalaxyl, dimethomorph and cymoxanil. According to resistance factor, all P. infestans isolates were sensitive to dimethomorph, cymoxanil, mancozeb and zoxamide, 58.3% of isolates were sensitive to azoxystrobin and 50% to metalaxyl. Gout's scale indicated that 41.7% isolates were moderately sensitive to azoxystrobin and 50% to metalaxyl.

Detection of resistance to fungicides, mating types and fitness of Phytophthora infestans in Hebei, China.
Mededelingen (Rijksuniversiteit te Gent. Fakulteit van de Landbouwkundige en Toegepaste Biologische Wetenschappen), 2002, Volume: 67, Issue:2

In vitro, isolates resistant to metalaxyl (M) and oxadixyl (O) of Phytophthora infestans were 11.2% of 62 isolates from potato and tomato in Hebei Province, mean resistance factor was 15,022 fold and 24,733 fold, respectively, no isolates resistant either to cymoxanil (C) or to dimethomorph (D) were detected. On the other hand, in vivo, isolates resistant to M and O were 29.0% and 32.7%, respectively, among 217 isolates from potato plants in Weichang and Chongli, Hebei, only one isolate resistant to M and O was found among 88 isolates from tomato plants in Xushui, Hebei. Among 73 isolates from potato in Weichang and Chongli, 6 isolates with A2 mating type were 8.2%, 3 A2 isolates resistant to metalaxyl and oxadixyl. 3 A2 isolates were 6.8% of 44 isolates from tomato in Xushui. Cross resistance in Phytophthora infestans was confirmed between M and O, but no cross resistance between C or D and M or O. The field isolates resistant to M and O were outstandingly fitter than sensitive or intermediate ones, mainly due to stronger sporulation capacity of the field isolates.
