Overview

ExcerptReference
"Since trichosporonosis is a relatively rare infectious disease, there has been no established breakpoint for this fungus to various antifungal agents, wherein we cannot precisely confirm its sensitivity or resistance to the agents."( Ishii, H; Kadota, J; Kushima, H; Tokimatsu, I, 2015)
"In Asian countries, Trichosporon infection is a well-known disease in Japan."( Chakrabarti, A; Ghosh, A; Honnavar, P; Pamidi, U; Rastogi, V; Rudramurthy, SM, 2016)
"Trichosporonosis is an emerging and often fatal opportunistic fungal infection in immunocompromised patients, particularly those with hematologic malignancy, but data in children are lacking."( Baker, CJ; Brackett, J; Edwards, MS; Foster, CE; Healy, CM; Schady, DA, 2018)
"Trichosporonosis is a rare, life-threatening, opportunistic fungal infection that affects immunocompromised individuals with neutropenia, particularly those with underlying hematologic malignancies."( Nguyen, JK; Pourciau, CY; Schady, D; Schlichte, MJ, 2018)
"Invasive trichosporonosis is an acute fatal condition that occurs in immunosuppressed patients, usually under antifungal selective pressure."( Moncada, D; Ramírez, I, 2020)
"Invasive trichosporonosis is a rare and lethal fungal infection that occurs in immunocompromised patients."( Itoh, K; Iwasaki, H; Negoro, E; Shigemi, H; Tokimatsu, I; Tsutani, H; Yamauchi, T, 2021)

Context

ExcerptReference
"Disseminated trichosporonosis has been increasingly reported worldwide and represents a challenge for both diagnosis and species identification."( Chaves, GM; Colombo, AL; Padovan, AC, 2011)
"Although disseminated trichosporonosis has been increasingly reported the diagnosis represents a challenge especially in rare clinical settings such as intraventricular fungal ball in the present case, which has not been described previously."( Babu, R; Chowdhary, A; Karim, S; Kumar, A; Panikar, D; Prakash, A; Rajamma, BM; Udayakumaran, S, 2015)
"Cases of invasive Trichosporon infections have increasingly emerged; it is now the second leading cause of yeast bloodstream infections after Candida spp."( Moncada, D; Ramírez, I, 2020)
"Trichosporon infections have been increasingly reported worldwide; however, little information is available either about their characteristics or the causative microorganism."( Anversa, L; Arnoni, MV; Auler, M; Bonfietti, LX; de Camargo, BB; Dias, ALT; Garces, HG; Gimenes, VMF; Lara, BR; Leite Junior, DP; Melhem, MSC; Monari, GPM; Moreira, D; Oliveira, L; Paula, CR; Ramos, RTB; Richini-Pereira, VB; Ruiz, LDS; Silva, NC; Silveira, M, 2023)

Treatment

ExcerptReference
"Breakthrough trichosporonosis in patients receiving echinocandins therapy is being recognized recently."( Ao, JH; Hartmann, T; Liao, Y; Wang, WL; Yang, RY; Zheng, T, 2012)
"The recommended first-line therapy for trichosporonosis is voriconazole, but successful outcome depends largely on the underlying immune status of the host."( Baker, CJ; Brackett, J; Edwards, MS; Foster, CE; Healy, CM; Schady, DA, 2018)
"It is important to consider trichosporonosis in the evaluation of a critically ill individual with neutropena and a rash, because the initial cutaneous presentation may appear benign and delayed therapy results in death."( Nguyen, JK; Pourciau, CY; Schady, D; Schlichte, MJ, 2018)
"Treatment of patients with invasive trichosporonosis remains a controversial issue, but triazoles are mentioned by most authors as the best first-line antifungal therapy."( Chaves, GM; Colombo, AL; Freitas de Jesus, DF; Padovan, ACB; Rocha, WPDS; Toti, ACM, 2019)
