Description Research Excerpts Clinical Trials Roles Classes Pathways Study Profile Bioassays Related Drugs Related Conditions Protein Interactions Research Growth Market Indicators

Potassium superoxide (KO2) is a bright yellow paramagnetic solid. It is a powerful oxidizer and is used as an oxygen source in breathing apparatus. It is synthesized by reacting potassium with oxygen at elevated temperatures and pressures. Upon reaction with water, it releases oxygen, which is why it is used in respirators. It also generates potassium hydroxide, which is caustic. Potassium superoxide is also used in the synthesis of other potassium compounds. It is studied for its potential applications in oxygen generation, chemical synthesis, and as a component of solid-state batteries. '
