Description

Mono-n-octyl phthalate (monooctyl phthalate, MOP) is a plasticizer that is commonly used in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products. It is synthesized by the reaction of phthalic anhydride with n-octanol. MOP is a colorless, oily liquid that is soluble in organic solvents. It is used to increase the flexibility and durability of PVC products. MOP is also used in other applications, such as lubricants, adhesives, and sealants. It is not considered to be a hazardous substance, but it has been shown to be harmful to aquatic organisms. MOP is studied because it is a widely used plasticizer and because it has been found to be persistent in the environment. It is also studied because it has been shown to have potential health effects, such as endocrine disruption.'
