Description

Mono(2-methoxyethyl) phthalate (MEHP) is a plasticizer commonly used in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products. It is often found in food packaging, medical devices, and toys. MEHP is a metabolite of di(2-methoxyethyl) phthalate (DEHP), which is a widely used plasticizer. DEHP is converted to MEHP in the body during digestion. MEHP has been shown to have endocrine disrupting effects, particularly on the reproductive system. It is also a potential carcinogen. Because of its widespread use and potential health effects, MEHP has been the subject of numerous studies. Researchers are investigating its environmental fate, toxicity, and potential for human exposure.'

ExcerptReferenceRelevance
" While xenoestrogenic and chronic toxic effects of phthalates have been extensively discussed, there is little data on genotoxic effects in human cells."( Mono(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate exhibits genotoxic effects in human lymphocytes and mucosal cells of the upper aerodigestive tract in the comet assay.
