Description

Methylene bis(thiocyanate) is a chemical compound with the formula CH2(SCN)2. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and organic solvents. It is used as a fumigant to control pests in stored grain, food, and other materials. Methylene bis(thiocyanate) is also used as a reagent in organic synthesis. The compound is synthesized by reacting methylene chloride with potassium thiocyanate. It is an irritant and toxic compound and should be handled with care. Methylene bis(thiocyanate) is also known as methylenedithiocyanate. Research on methylene bis(thiocyanate) focuses on its potential use in agriculture and other industries. It is studied for its insecticidal, fungicidal, and bactericidal properties. Methylene bis(thiocyanate) is also being investigated as a potential treatment for certain types of cancer.'

methylene bis(thiocyanate) : A member of the class of thiocyanates that is methane in which two of the hycrogens have been replaced by thiocyanato groups. Used as a biocide for the control of various pathogens and algae in industrial water systems and as a fungicide for the control of surface moulds and sapstain fungi on wood.
