Description

8-hydroxyquinoline glucuronide (8-HQG) is a metabolite of the drug 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ). It is formed in the liver by the enzyme UDP-glucuronosyltransferase. 8-HQG is a potent chelator of metal ions, particularly iron. It has been shown to have a number of biological effects, including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activity. 8-HQG is also a substrate for the enzyme glutathione S-transferase, which detoxifies a variety of xenobiotics. The formation of 8-HQG is an important detoxification pathway for 8-HQ. Research on 8-HQG focuses on its potential therapeutic uses, its role in drug metabolism, and its potential toxicity.'
