Description

4-methylumbelliferyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-beta-d-glucopyranoside (MUG) is a fluorogenic substrate for the enzyme N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAGase). It is commonly used in research and diagnostics due to its sensitivity and specificity for NAGase activity. MUG is hydrolyzed by NAGase to release the highly fluorescent compound 4-methylumbelliferone. This reaction can be monitored using a fluorometer, allowing for the quantification of NAGase activity. MUG is often used in research to study the role of NAGase in various physiological and pathological processes, such as inflammation, cancer, and infection. It is also used in diagnostic assays for the detection and monitoring of diseases associated with NAGase activity, such as lysosomal storage disorders.'
