Description

4-Chlorophenylalanine methyl ester (4-Cl-Phe-OMe) is a synthetic analog of phenylalanine. It acts as an irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase, which is responsible for the biosynthesis of serotonin. Due to its ability to inhibit serotonin synthesis, 4-Cl-Phe-OMe has been studied as a potential treatment for conditions like depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, its use is limited due to potential side effects and the availability of more effective and safer serotonin reuptake inhibitors.'

4-chlorophenylalanine methyl ester: RN given refers to parent cpd without isomeric designation [Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), National Library of Medicine, extracted Dec-2023]
