3-Nitroacetanilide is an organic compound with the formula CH3CONHC6H4NO2. It is a yellow solid that is soluble in ethanol and acetone but insoluble in water. It is a synthetic compound, and its synthesis involves the nitration of acetanilide. 3-Nitroacetanilide is an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemicals, including pharmaceuticals. For example, it is a precursor to the analgesic acetaminophen (paracetamol). 3-Nitroacetanilide is also used in the production of dyes and pigments.
