Description

1-butyrylglycerol (1-BG) is a monoglyceride that is a naturally occurring lipid. It is found in dairy products, coconut oil, and other sources. 1-BG is a potent activator of the nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) which is a transcription factor that regulates lipid metabolism. 1-BG has been shown to have various effects on the body, including reducing blood triglyceride levels, increasing insulin sensitivity, and promoting weight loss. Studies on 1-BG are primarily focused on its potential therapeutic benefits for metabolic diseases, such as diabetes and obesity. Its mechanism of action is primarily related to its ability to activate PPARα and modulate lipid metabolism. '

monobutyrin : A 1-monoglyceride resulting from the formal esterification of butyric acid with one of the primary hydroxy groups of glycerol. The R enantiomer is bioactive.
